What is the Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC)?
The Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC) is a group of Indigenous individuals from B.C. and the Yukon and include Indigenous community representatives with lived heart health experience, those who have engaged in health research or other research (i.e. genomics, AI, etc…) and those who have experience on advisory committees.
What the IAC does
The IAC plays an essential leadership role in shaping how MOSAIC works with Indigenous communities. They also provide guidance to ensure MOSAIC is conducted in a way that is respectful, culturally safe, and aligned to Indigenous values and priorities.
Members will ensure that work with Indigenous data is culturally grounded, ethically sound, and aligned with Indigenous priorities, values and self-determination.
A commitment to Indigenous communities
MOSAIC recognizes that research involving Indigenous peoples must be done in a respectful, collaborative, and culturally safe way. This includes:
- Working in partnership with Indigenous patients, families, and communities
- Respecting Indigenous ways of knowing and healing
- Supporting Indigenous participants in decision-making
- Ensuring research benefits are meaningful and relevant for participants and communities
- Protecting privacy and ensuring data is handled responsibly
MOSAIC is guided by ethics, community voices, and a strong belief that research must be done with communities.
