FAQs

The MOSAIC study is developing new ways of predicting and diagnosing heart conditions.

FAQs

Who can see my data?

Only approved researchers who meet strict requirements can access your information for research — and your name or personal details are never shared.

Will I get results back?

Yes — if you choose. Participants can opt in to receive:

  • A report of their clinical blood work.
  • Notification of any important genetic findings discovered by chance. These results will be sent directly to your doctor, who will review them with you and discuss any next steps for your care.

What if I don’t want results?

That’s completely fine. Receiving results is your choice. If you prefer not to get reports, your samples and data will still contribute to the study and help improve heart health for future patients and communities.

Can I withdraw if I change my mind?

Participation is completely voluntary, and you can choose to withdraw at any time up until your data has been sent to the Pan Canadian Genome Library and anonymized. Once your data is anonymized, it cannot be linked back to you, so withdrawal is no longer possible.

Withdrawing will not affect your medical care in any way, and any information not yet shared with the research library will be securely removed from the study.

How is my privacy protected?

Your information is de-identified, stored securely, and used only for approved health research. Oversight by ethics boards, patient partners, and Indigenous advisors helps ensure data is handled responsibly.

Will my data be sold?

No. Your data will never be sold or shared with third parties for profit.

Where can I get my blood work done?

The hospital lab at your echo site can collect your sample. Just remember to complete your blood draw within 30 days of your echocardiography visit. Your lab requisition will be emailed to you directly when you join the study.

There is usually walk-in availability at each lab, but you can also book ahead to save time using this link:  https://www.labonlinebooking.ca/login

If you prefer, our team can book an appointment for you. Just drop us a line by email at or set up a call.

Who can I contact if I have a question or need assistance?

If you would like more information or have any questions or comments, you can contact our study team any time:
